ASTM A193 B7 bolts are made of chromium-molybdenum steel with a typical composition of 0.35-0.50% carbon, 0.90-1.20% chromium, 0.15-0.25% molybdenum, and small quantities of manganese, silicon, and phosphorus. The composition provides superior strength, toughness, and resistance in elevated temperature conditions. The mechanical properties are minimum tensile strength of 95 ksi (655 MPa), yield strength of 75 ksi (515 MPa), and elongation of 20% in 8 inches. ASTM A193 B7 bolts are highly resistant to stress, corrosion, and thermal fatigue resistance and therefore very suitable for hostile applications in oil, gas, and power sectors.
